DESCRIPTION:Event Sold Out!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAEE Capital Region | Exclusive Tour: NY-ISO Control Room\n\n\n\nJoin the Association of Energy Engineers Capital Region Chapter for a rare\, behind-the-scenes look at the nerve center of New York State’s electric grid — the New York Independent System Operator (NY-ISO) Control Room. \n\n\n\nThis exclusive guided tour offers energy professionals an extraordinary opportunity to see firsthand how New York’s bulk electric system is monitored\, managed\, and dispatched in real time. As grid complexity grows with the rapid integration of renewable energy\, demand response\, and distributed resources\, understanding how the ISO balances supply and demand across the state has never been more relevant to our work as energy engineers and managers. \n\n\n\nDuring the tour\, participants will observe the Control Room operations floor\, learn how grid operators respond to generation changes\, transmission constraints\, and system emergencies\, and gain insight into the tools and systems that keep the lights on for millions of New Yorkers. NY-ISO staff will guide the group through the facility and be on hand to answer questions about grid operations\, energy markets\, and the evolving challenges of New York’s clean energy transition. \n\n\n\nSpace is extremely limited for this event — registration is required and spots will fill quickly. This event is open to AEE members and invited guests. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity to see the grid from the inside. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew York Independent System Operator (NY-ISO)\n\n\n\n10 Krey Boulevard\, Rensselaer\, NY 12144 \n\n\n\nThe New York Independent System Operator is the nonprofit organization responsible for operating New York State’s bulk electricity grid and administering its wholesale electricity markets. Founded in 1999\, NY-ISO manages the flow of electricity across more than 11\,000 miles of high-voltage transmission lines\, ensuring reliable\, safe\, and competitive power delivery to the state’s approximately 20 million residents and businesses. \n\n\n\nLocated in Rensselaer — just across the Hudson River from downtown Albany — the NY-ISO headquarters houses the state-of-the-art Control Room from which operators monitor grid conditions and dispatch resources around the clock\, 365 days a year. The facility is purpose-built for reliability and redundancy\, and the Control Room itself serves as the operational command center for one of the most complex and rapidly evolving electric grids in the nation. \n\n\n\nParking is available on site. Attendees should be prepared to present a valid photo ID upon arrival. No photography is permitted inside the facility. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a joint society meeting featuring ASPE\, AEE\, and ASHRAE! \n\n\n\nThe integrity of the HVAC industry is dependent on sound technical design\, reliable products\, skilled construction practice and consistent maintenance and operation. But another critical element that is sometimes overlooked is professional ethics. As members within the HVAC industry engineers\, contractors\, architects\, manufacturers\, vendors and building owners are expected to exhibit the highest standard of honesty and integrity to safeguard the confidence that the public has in us.  In this very competitive climate\, however\, it is sometimes tempting to “bend the rules” to some degree in order to gain an advantage over competition or to simply get the job done on time. But how much is too much? Is there a clearly defined line between ethical practice and “just the way things are done?” \n\n\n\n“The (un)Ethical Engineer” is an interactive\, multimedia\, dramatic presentation that explores these issues through the eyes of a well-intentioned engineer. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker: Devin A. Abellon \, P.E. \n\n\n\nDevin Abellon\, P.E. is the Director of Engineered Solutions at Pac West Sales. He has 30 years of experience in the HVAC and plumbing industries with a focus on highperformance and sustainable building design and construction. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara and is a registered professional engineer in California and Arizona. He has been an active member of ASHRAE at the chapter\, regional and society levels and currently serves as an ASHRAE Society Vice President\, on ASHRAE’s Planning Committee and the Board of Directors DEI Advisory Subcommittee. He is also co-host of The Flourish Podcast.

Attendees will gain practical insight into how these updates affect project planning\, energy modeling\, and code compliance\, helping ensure their projects meet the latest standards while maximizing energy performance and available incentives. \n\n\n\nPresenter: Jason Dodge\, NYS Code Enforcement Official\, CEM\, CPDT\, LEED AP \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJason Dodge is the Energy Engineering Manager at Danforth’s Buffalo office\, where he leads a team of energy engineers in identifying efficiency upgrades and verifying utility performance across diverse projects. With more than 20 years of industry experience\, including over 11 years with Danforth\, Jason specializes in energy performance contracting\, incentive acquisition\, and code compliance. His portfolio spans municipal\, K–12\, higher education\, healthcare\, multifamily\, industrial\, and cleanroom projects. This event is only open to AEE members. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat does AGILe do?\n\n\n\nThe Advanced Grid Innovation Laboratory for Energy (AGILe) is a world-class electric power systems laboratory operated by the New York Power Authority (NYPA) at the NY CREATES Albany NanoTech Complex. Its primary function is to provide a real-time testing environment to modernize the electric grid and accelerate the transition to clean energy. \n\n\n\nCore Functions & Capabilities \n\n\n\nNational Resource: In early 2026\, AGILe was added to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Registry of Electric Grid Test Beds\, recognizing it as the only facility nationwide with full system-level functionality for multi-regional large-scale power grids.  \n\n\n\nDigital Twin of the NY Power Grid: AGILe hosts the first-ever comprehensive digital twin of the New York State electric grid\, allowing for the simulation of future scenarios and the testing of new technologies in a risk-free environment. \n\n\n\nDe-risking Technology: It enables utilities\, grid operators\, and technology developers to validate new products—such as battery storage\, EV charging infrastructure\, and offshore wind integration—before they are deployed in the field. \n\n\n\nCybersecurity Research: The lab serves as a hub for cybersecurity\, allowing experts to simulate cyber incidents and develop innovative mitigation technologies. \n\n\n\nGrid Reliability Testing: Experts use real-time simulations to assess the impacts of extreme weather events and high penetrations of renewable energy on the bulk power system to ensure long-term reliability. \n\n\n\nCheck in instructions will be shared with registered attendees.
