SUMMARY:Nuclear Fusion: Powering the Future of Energy Generation
DESCRIPTION:Jackie Farnsworth from Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) will be presenting at our first Fall Event for 2024! CFS is at the forefront of transforming power generation through nuclear fusion. Founded in 2018 as a spin-off from MIT\, CFS is developing compact fusion power plants that promise to deliver clean\, abundant\, and cost-effective energy. Their innovative approach utilizes high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets in their SPARC project\, aiming to achieve net energy gain from fusion reactions. This breakthrough technology is set to pave the way for ARC\, the first commercially viable fusion power plant\, which could revolutionize the energy industry by providing a sustainable and powerful alternative to traditional fossil fuels. \n\n\n\nJacqueline Farnsworth is a lead systems engineer at CFS\, where she focuses on the design\, build\, and testing of SPARC\, a cutting-edge tokamak aiming to make fusion energy a reality. She started at CFS in 2021 when the project was at the conceptual design phase and has brought SPARC all the way to where it is in the installation phase today.  Previously\, she worked in facility commissioning and the automotive industry\, developing expertise in systems integration and deployment. She now uses that diverse expertise in advancing fusion technology and creating a sustainable energy future.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Lunch & Learn style event will be hosted by our partners CHA Consulting\, Inc at 3 Winners Circle in Albany. AEE CR would also like to thank both CHA and NYSSPE for sponsoring the PDH credits for this event.

SUMMARY:Wastewater Energy Transfer - SHARC
DESCRIPTION:Aaron Miller from SHARC will present on Wastewater Energy Transfer systems. Wastewater represents one of the most underutilized renewable thermal resources within our communities and facilities. This session introduces SHARC Energy’s Wastewater Energy Transfer (WET) systems—engineered to harvest and reuse the inherent thermal value of municipal\, commercial\, and onsite wastewater as both a heat source and heat sink for space conditioning and domestic hot water. Through detailed case studies\, including district energy networks\, affordable housing retrofits\, and institutional facilities\, attendees will explore system architectures and integration with geothermal\, heat pumps\, and other hydronic systems driving measurable carbon and cost reductions across the built environment. \n\n\n\n\n\nAaron Miller is a seasoned professional with extensive experience working on both sides of the energy meter. He has spent the last decade focused primarily on deploying deep energy efficiency retrofits in multi-family residential\, commercial\, and industrial buildings across the United States and Canada. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Lunch & Learn style event will be hosted by our partners CHA Consulting\, Inc at 3 Winners Circle\, Albany\, NY\, 12205. SUMMARY:NY-ISO Control Room Tour
DESCRIPTION:Event Sold Out! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAEE Capital Region | Exclusive Tour: NY-ISO Control Room\n\n\n\nJoin the Association of Energy Engineers Capital Region Chapter for a rare\, behind-the-scenes look at the nerve center of New York State’s electric grid — the New York Independent System Operator (NY-ISO) Control Room. \n\n\n\nThis exclusive guided tour offers energy professionals an extraordinary opportunity to see firsthand how New York’s bulk electric system is monitored\, managed\, and dispatched in real time. As grid complexity grows with the rapid integration of renewable energy\, demand response\, and distributed resources\, understanding how the ISO balances supply and demand across the state has never been more relevant to our work as energy engineers and managers. \n\n\n\nDuring the tour\, participants will observe the Control Room operations floor\, learn how grid operators respond to generation changes\, transmission constraints\, and system emergencies\, and gain insight into the tools and systems that keep the lights on for millions of New Yorkers. NY-ISO staff will guide the group through the facility and be on hand to answer questions about grid operations\, energy markets\, and the evolving challenges of New York’s clean energy transition. \n\n\n\nSpace is extremely limited for this event — registration is required and spots will fill quickly. This event is open to AEE members and invited guests. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity to see the grid from the inside. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew York Independent System Operator (NY-ISO)\n\n\n\n10 Krey Boulevard\, Rensselaer\, NY 12144 \n\n\n\nThe New York Independent System Operator is the nonprofit organization responsible for operating New York State’s bulk electricity grid and administering its wholesale electricity markets.
