Nuclear Fusion: Powering the Future of Energy Generation

October 25 @ 11:30 am 1:30 pm

Jackie Farnsworth from Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) will be presenting at our first Fall Event for 2024! CFS is at the forefront of transforming power generation through nuclear fusion. Founded in 2018 as a spin-off from MIT, CFS is developing compact fusion power plants that promise to deliver clean, abundant, and cost-effective energy. Their innovative approach utilizes high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets in their SPARC project, aiming to achieve net energy gain from fusion reactions. This breakthrough technology is set to pave the way for ARC, the first commercially viable fusion power plant, which could revolutionize the energy industry by providing a sustainable and powerful alternative to traditional fossil fuels.

Jacqueline Farnsworth is a lead systems engineer at CFS, where she focuses on the design, build, and testing of SPARC, a cutting-edge tokamak aiming to make fusion energy a reality. She started at CFS in 2021 when the project was at the conceptual design phase and has brought SPARC all the way to where it is in the installation phase today.  Previously, she worked in facility commissioning and the automotive industry, developing expertise in systems integration and deployment. She now uses that diverse expertise in advancing fusion technology and creating a sustainable energy future.
